■About Manseikan Aikido
In 1954, Kanshu Sunadomari, a pre-war uchideshi of the founder of Aikido,
opened the first professional Aikido dojo in Kyushu. The dojo was given
the name “Manseikan”. Using the Manseikan Dojo in Kumamoto City as a
base, Sunadomari Sensei began disseminating the art of Aikido throughout
the Kyushu area After the founder's death in 1969, Sunadomari Sensei took
his group of affiliated dojos independent. The headquarters dojo was established
in Kumamoto City and the name of the practice was changed to "Manseikan
Aikido." On January 11, 1999, the name changed again to "Aiki
Manseido, symbolizing Sunadomari Sensei's conviction to further develop
the art of Aikido as a path for all people and a practice to help bring
about the realization of world peace. |

| The roots of Aiki Manseido begin with the first public demonstration
of Aikido in Kyushu by Kanshu Sunadomari Shihan in October 23, 1953. The
following year, in January 1954, the headquarters dojo was established
in Kumamoto City. Following this, Aikido spread throughout Kyushu to cities
such as Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, and Miyazaki. During this time, the
number of practitioners rose to over 20,000 with over 3,000 people reaching
the level of black-belt. |
